Best budget friendly photo editing software?

Go! Using a 2011 MBP 2.4GHz and 4gb RAM.

Simple photo editing/lighting controls would be my #1 priority. If I have to make big adjustments I can use pixlr web for free.

Thanks!
Matt

Lightroom is a pretty solid choice but it does cost a few bucks. You can get a $10/month subscription I think, but if you don't need to keep up with the latest version, just buying the license would work well. There are other options in the App Store but the Adobe stuff is just so standard, it's easy to find other people to help learn from. And for the ultra simple, Photos built into the OS is pretty decent. crops, basic color adjustments, a little cleanup, it's great for that

I do like hat for $10/mo I get photoshop and Lightroom. Seems like a good starting point and it includes use of the mobile apps. Am I missing something?

For $10 a month, there really isn't a better deal out there if you're going to be editing regularly.

And if you feel this is overkill you can still purchase standalone LR for $149 and avoid the monthly fee.

I'll give it a go for the first month and see how I like it.

Re: Best budget friendly photo editing software?

Snapseed is great for iphone pics.

My 6d connects to my cell phone and I can save pics from the camera to the phone photo gallery and snapseed from there, which is pretty cool also, except it is a downsized JPEG and doesnt print well at any larger size. So if I get a good edit, I have to try recreate it at home in PS from the full size image.

Re: Best budget friendly photo editing software?

So I just got a new 15" MBP with Retina display and want to transfer all of my photos from my LR account to the new computer. I just tried with Airdrop and while the photos switched, all of the past history was lost. How can I move over my old library from my wife's 13" MBP to my new 15" MBP while retaining adjustment history?

thanks,
matt

Re: Best budget friendly photo editing software?

Did you move the library or just the photo files? I'm not Lightroom fluent, but the library holds the adjustments, I believe

I thought I moved the library but I guess not. I'll dick around with it tomorrow.

Re: Best budget friendly photo editing software?

You have to move the entire library then make sure the files retain the same folder structure or you'll have to "find" them again.
