meh. stacking the grid under the softbounce thing is confusing. one narrows the beam, the other softens/widens it. add them together....? diffuse/specularity is all dependent on the size of the light source relative to the subject. there are other products out there that do this.

It makes sense to me, how do you soften the beam from the grid without the softbounce?
Think background light on a backdrop.
I believe your thinking if a person has unlimited studio space inorder to soften the grid due to distance to subject/background?????
