Thank hey-zues for home insurance.

Went fishing early Sat morning, loaded most of my shit in the car Friday night. Came out Sat morning, drove up to my parents place went to get my camera case out of the back of the car and..................errr..........WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SHIT?!?!?!??!

Brand new 70D, EF-S 10-22mm, EF-S 17-55mm f2.8, EF 70-200 f4 IS USM... Gone like the fucking wind.

I don't think I've ever been this mad in my entire life, both at myself (Did I not lock the car?) and whoever decided they thought my shit should be their shit. The funny thing is, my wallet plus $1000 of fishing gear was still in the car. Unsolved mystery I guess, luckily my home insurance is covering it, should have all new shit by next week.

If I find my shit on the local classifieds, someone is going to have a very very bad day.

Re: Thank hey-zues for home insurance.

I'd probably be angry as fuck, but I live in the ghetto and know anything left in a vehicle outside will get ganked, so I just never leave anything in a car.

Glad though your insurance is covering the stuff.

Shitty but good to hear it's covered.

Perfect time to replace the 70D with a 6D, 10-22 with 17-40, 17-55 with 24-70...

ohhhh awful. i think i'd have felt better about losing my stuff if someone had actually stolen it, because then i wouldn't have felt so STUPID for losing it. But then I found it so it worked out :P Glad the home insurance is taking care of you. Ouch.

Re: Thank hey-zues for home insurance.

Its a lot harder to trade a bunch of fishing poles and lures for crack at 3am. At least you were still able to go fishing!

Re: Thank hey-zues for home insurance.

The funny thing is, they didn't ask for any real proof that I even owned all this shit. I guess I could have gone the FF route if I really wanted to. Ah well, I love the 100-400mm on my crop body \:\)

I'll be happy when I get all my shit back.

I'll send you an old rebel for free for telephoto shots if you buy a FF camera. Nice little 10.1MP XS with your name all over it.

Re: Thank hey-zues for home insurance.

My homeowners insurance does a special ryder? thing for cameras and laptops. I've got ~3500 dollars in camera gear on there for 40 dollars a year with no deductible required should I make a claim. Covers accidental damage too.

That is with USAA.

So...I'll gladly take the 10-22 and 70-200mm off your hands when you find them on Craigslist. I'll give a better price than the CL ad! ;\)

Good to hear they covered everything.
Was it difficult to submit the claim and provide proof? It's only been 2 weeks and you've already received your stuff. I've never heard of claims going through so quickly.

Re: Thank hey-zues for home insurance.

Painless. Only thing I had to do other then talk to the insurance company was file a police report (Which I did online). I would have had all this stuff last week but I was on a fishing trip from the 6th-13th. Shit, I could have bought it all and just sent in the receipts. But the insurance company dealt with my local camera shops corporate sales department, got everything in order and I got a knock on the door this morning. First claim I've ever made on anything (including auto).. I was pleasantly surprised. I thought this was going to be nothing but a hassle.

This was covered under my home owners policy. If you want something specific for the camera, get a rider. This will cover loss, breakage, etc.. Something a home owners policy won't (Unless it's specified)

With USAA, I gave them a call initially and set it up on my homeowners insurance. Now, I can add and remove the items as I wish using the USAA website.

If you rent and have renters insurance, you can likely get a rider for your camera the same way as if you had Home owners insurance.

With USAA, I also have my laptop computers covered with them on the same rider as my camera gear. It is zero deductible and around 40 dollars a year premium for what I have covered right now, which is between four and five thousand in stuff.
