Anything good for Christmas/Chanukah

This year was not a "photo" Christmas but my wife did get me some little things.

I put thermos the bottom rack of the dishwasher and melted the glue that holds the badge...so I have some minor repair work to do.

The o-ring sucks up 3 stops of light right out of the box but with alittle aluminium HVAC tape I was about to get 1.3 to 1.7 stops back. It makes for some interesting light and will take some getting used to. I have two images using the o ring still on the card that I like.

With waterproof p&s, learn from my mistake. Put a Wii type wrist band on it so that if it slips out of your hand it doesn't swim off on its own. My wife lost ours in the ocean last february when she got hit by a wave and got disoriented. It came with a wrist strap, but not one you could tighten.

I got an Canon 85mm 1.8 lens from my girlfriend. My mom got me the Canon 7d grip and a little camera ornament. My sister got me a second battery for my 7d.

Best gift though was seeing my dad's face when I gave him my old T1i.

Re: Anything good for Christmas/Chanukah

My mom decided to drop some serious cash on my presents for Xmas, so it's the thought that counts, but she got totally screwed by a local camera shop.

I had an LED light panel on my wishlist. They sold her a cheap knockoff one that hardly puts out any light for $300!! The Manfrotto one I wanted is only ~$200.

I had a very specific point and shoot on my list because it does slow-mo video. She took that to mean I just wanted a camera, so she asked the guy what kind of camera he could sell her for someone who was a serious hobbyist dabbling in pro. He sold her a fucking Nikon Coolpix. Hmm.....I think I'll keep my 5DMII sir.

Assholes are being a pain about a refund too. My intention is to take ~$300 and buy a Go-Pro Hero II and give mom back the rest.

Re: Anything good for Christmas/Chanukah

no, it's just the slider. that's the old Rode VideoMic. they came out w/ an updated VideoMic Pro, which is better. the fluid head is a Manfrotto 701HDV (not part of the slider). are you looking to get into video?

I got my wife a Canon SX230HS and 8gb card for Christmas. Pretty slick camera.

I got myself a Manfrotto Unica VII messenger bag, an Impact 10' air cushioned light stand, Spyder3Pro monitor calibration, Manfrotto ball head and a Westscott reflector arm. Purchased these yesterday with some Christmas money I had. I was going to buy an AB800 or AB1600 but didn't want to break the bank.

I wasn't, but then a friend of mine who's made several indie films in the past (mostly small local things that just got shown locally) started talking about working on something together. Not really my area, but I have the 5DMII, so I get to be the dp!

DP is like second in command, and it's exactly how the title sounds. He has control over the composition of each shot, lens choice, lighting, camera movement (if any), and he answers only to the Director (and producer also I guess.)

I love my SX230HS, surprisingly good high ISO performance too.

I got a new (used) DSLR, so now I have something sorta from this century:
