407 ETR life-changing
|
|
Any regular users of 407?
For years, I had the transponder, and rarely used vGCAsian. With my job 40-50km each way (depending on traffic ala Waze), I used it sporadically given the f'd up commutes: 55-60 mins at 645am, and 1.5-2 hours during rush hour traffic home
Got a targeted good diu: $59.99/mth (for 4 mths), Mon-Fri unlimited travel 7am-9am + 330pm-6pm. (I average 25km on the 407 in each direction, per day.)
(Had to adjust my morning commute so I enter 407 after 7am ...)
The time savings is pretty awesome -- will stop using 407 without the good diu though. I save about 10 mins in the morning, and 20-40 minutes in the afternoon.
Seriously. the rates are kinda cray (Just realized diff rates depending on direction of travel, and 'zones') https://www.407etr.com/en/tolls/rate-charts/rate-chart-light.html
Not too familiar with the other Rewards Programs they have, but maybe I could stack other dius as well https://www.407etr.com/en/tolls/etr-rewards/etr-rewards.html

That is a good diu. 407 is amazing especially when the weather is shit like snow storms. It may not be moving fast but way better then stop and go bullshit that’s more stop then go lol

Yup. I'm the cheapest person around, but ever since having 2nd kid I'll sacrifice the money to get the extra 30 mins with them.
I check for that offer every 2 months and they never extend it to me

407 saves me alot of time no doubt, especially living off of major mac. but shit it's expensive. if i wake up and get going 15-20mins earlier then i don't have to take it. sure i'm sitting in traffic, but the tlx isn't a bad place to do it in and i can save a good $100+/ month. i'm also driving in on off hours but these days that doesn't mean shit.

Use it, love it, don't really care what it costs. It saves me time and the hassle of sitting in traffic.

use it all the time if having to go west (usually), esp with the fam/kids. east for the tracking until 412 south.

I use it multiple times a day and have been for years, not on my dime but would willingly pay for it no issues. From a Markham perspective it's 100% better to be off the 407 than 404 as an example...obviously at a price. It seems South Markham (boxgrove/village/uvill/woodbine)/Thornhill/Woodbridge are the biggest winners here (whoever can afford it anyway) in terms of 407 practicality. Mississauga for example I am not sure how much of a difference it makes since they have the QEW/401/403 and the 407 is 'too north' in parts of it.
Markham to YYZ (20 minutes in traffic).
Literally any time of day as long as i can get to it, i am good. It's a deal breaker for me for many things, meetings, jobs, clients, whatever, only off the 407 or get fucked. I learned this from the ballers, everyone in the 905 that's worth their salt swears by this shit, hence why you see the cars you see on it. Ain't nobody got time to sit in traffic for hours.
When I drive out to my building towards Trenton, 407/412/401, bypassing the cluster fuck of 401 between Oshawa-Toronto, it's easily a 45 minute time savings and avoids being on the verge of constantly being hit by distracted or road raging drivers.

I take the 407 whenever it saves me 15mins min. Otherwise I’m too cheap.

I like the 407/412 when I fish out east. So relaxing compared to the 401.

Re: 407 ETR life-changing

It really comes down to being a safer way to commute as well, important to me as I drive 50-60k/year (also why I drive a land yacht).

all day every day, unless i have to go downtown or east of oshawa. work car, work transponder, work gas. 140kmh avg. i cant complain.
weekend fam jams it depends on traffic and lateness to the event, but ajax to brampton/sauga is so much better on the 407.

Just got my last bill today, only $35 which was surprising.
I went from Taunton to 410 today, that was probably $30 all on its own. Set the cruise at 125, paste myself in the right lane, home in an hour.
Try that on the 401

I usually end up taking it for work only. Weekends I am not in a hurry. The last time I used it from Markham Road to Hamilton back and forth. It was $86! lol

Imagine doing Markham to Hamilton/Niagara on a summer weekend via regular routes. I know people this summer who would turn around half way and go back, that drive shouldn't take 2-3 hours one way in traffic on a Saturday (but it does).
I have a supplier in Grimsby, I take the 407 to Hamilton...when you tell people Markham to Hamilton is 45ish miniutes (130-140) most don't believe you.
The secrets of the 407 Anyway I am a 407 homer, i am going to stfu now.

If only our stupid government didn't give it away after building it. The tolls are highway robbery. Pun maybe intended.

I for one am glad it's pay to drive, or it would be a cluster fuck like the 401

Re: 407 ETR life-changing

I used to hit the 407 fairly often too when I was traveling to st cats for work. I couldn't afford to take it daily tho. Hamilton to 400 was $40 one way. I found that taking it from Hamilton to 403 saved me approximately 10-15mins for about $12. So I'd do that usually once a week.
I did find the 407 scary on heavy snow days. Seemed plowed less often than other highways.

Re: 407 ETR life-changing

I've been doing Markham-Hamilton for the past few weekends back and forth without 407
Wife'll do Hamilton to Markham off-peak on weekdays here 'n there ... I think it's cray $$ but when the baby's wailing... yeah
What's kinda shitty is 407 doesn't have an app/ability to show you activity on the transponder on their site; you have to wait a full month for your statement wtf helllooooo it's 2019
When I settle in with the Jeffersons in Burlington, 407 won't be useful to me . HOT permit?
