Educate me on seafood towers

I'm hoping you guys can share some opinions on these Asian restaurants that serve up these seafood towers. I have only heard of one in particular (Fishman Lobster Clubhouse) but have seen various pics of different places posted on social media.

Are they serving quality food or garbage?
Any recommendations or places to stay away from?
Is this typically a group outing or can a couple go and experience it without throwing away half the food (ie smaller portions)?

Re: Educate me on seafood towers

Fishman Lobster Clubhouse is the only one I'm aware of that has this level of hardcore towering seafood. If you enjoy fresh seafood without much goopy sauces to cover the flavours/etc, this is the place. (not everything there is deep fried.)

I've been twice, with about 8-10 people. The more people you go with, the more grand the dishes are (obviously), unless you feel like bringing home 20 styrofoam containers Ballpark $80-100/pp at least.

"throwing away" food? It's called takeout containers ...

You'll likely enjoy the food with at least 4 people .... I've seen 2 people before (Youtube 'influencers'/fatties) do it.

They deep fry their lobsters (shells included) in chunks, so it's not steaming it then slathering in butter like the white folk. You'll eat with gloves, and be shoving your mouth full with these baby fishies and fried garlic OMFG, your shit and farts are going to stink for days

Their other seafood are very tasty as well.

As a touristy thing, the larger group that you go with, the larger the snowcrab/lobster... Take a pic for CSI.

Go nekkid like Eddie Huang https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu9hxYkdEDQ&t=30m19s

Look up their menus on what to expect, and pricing (just Google it.) . CASH only. BTW they've moved as well ...to... Shepperd/McCowan?

As for rumours, hearsay, etc...
- There's rumours they at times re-use the lobster heads from another diner for presentation
- There's stories about how they've been robbed a number of times (as they're a massive cash-only business)
- To build up some of the MASSIVE double lobster plates, they'll throw in pieces from other lobsters to make the dish look massive.

This may be old, but these are the cooking styles I suggest

They do have 2-person combos ... (not sure how old this menu screenshot is)

Any recommendations (open to anything)? I was just trying to come up with something different to take the wifey out to as we don't get out too much these days.

Byblos has tasty food.

Sultan's Tent you get a fat ass shake in your face while you eat -- never been

Marché Movenpick used to be the shit in high school

Funé if you're into gimmicky sushi on a boat train thing.

Michaels on Simcoe is decent steak (they had a $100 GC for Amex Platinum(?) holders) ... You get to pick the weight of your steak knife

Blue Blood @ Casa Loma? (never been)

Re: Educate me on seafood towers

for white people seafood tower, you would want to go to the chase.

i've been to fishman a couple times, and each time, it was a group of 4 and we enjoyed our meal and we were able to keep it around $60 pp ordering on of their combos. Lobster only, no king crab.

Re: Educate me on seafood towers

Been to fishmans once. Depending on how large the lobster you order will depend on how much meat you will get.

I suggest you go with a large party (more than 6ppl). The last time i went it was cash only, and it gets quite pricey.

It's good. However, i doubt i'll go again. Seafood has never been my thing, its not good for my joints.

Re: Educate me on seafood towers

Went to Fisherman last week for lunch.
If you can make for lunch, it gets more affordable at $30-35 person.

7 lb HK style tower combo with rice, vegetable, dessert was $120. Plus added noodle. It was for 4 people and quite filling.

I say it's fucking delicious. We are very used to ginger/garlic Lobster from Wahsing, Hwasang (can't spell), and I am more into HK style from Fishman now.

Been there for dinner last time and it is very expensive at $60-70 per son. They include wine in the combo and that brings the price up too.
