98-0629 is born again

luckily the rust still ended up being outer metal surface only, still had ok metal to work with from within. so basically the rundown is:

-superb body work done by the recommended shop i got for proper metal/filler/prime/paint/clear with OEM NH-0 of course
-new front and rear re-bars under bumper installed/primed.
-pretty much every bushing on the car is energy suspension
-rims send out for refinishing got the same oem paint as well.
-new Dunlop spec ZIII tires in oem 15" size installed (have Mugen MF10 16" for it as well with 215 tires)
-headlights set out to be refinished
-new Acura oem centre caps and lugnuts installed to finish it off in the later photos.
-all original emblems reinstalled with new type-R stickers (25whp per).
-new wiper arms installed and a few window trims new, and pretty much all new screws/clips/nuts/bolts what-have-you all OEM for putting her back together again
-inner fenders also done in proper undercoat and under trunk area as well (will never been winter driven).
-tints redone
-oem window upper visor accessory still intact
-car is full VIN matching/clean history
-car still has all the best mugen goodies on it that actually DO something
-Titty will give her a better interior clean up soon as well as a nice layer of sealant in about 6 weeks time

Anyone with good DLSR and photoshoot skills that has some free time, wouldn't mind doing a quick weekend day time shoot? Hit me up, thanks!

Which shop did the work?

Did they replace the complete 1/4's with aftermarket panels or did they cut around the rust and replace the spots only?

Looks very nice!

markham auto body (cj fly referral) and he's done some past nice restos on minis and other cars. usually he's just doing regular (insurance) work that keeps them busy these days.

they cut and did new metal by hand. i checked into rear 1/4's and they do not make OEM or aftermarket rears for any 98-01 teg gen (surprising). i did find a set in Cali from JPN but as usual the price was exorbitant. he also said it'd be a waste if my inside metal was rotted (which is was not) to weld the seem to. also wasn't bad enough to need full new rears, so that's good.

That's great! The car is meant to be driven, not a garage queen. Sadly there are a fair amount of ITRs that are garage queens which has never seen a track.

Keep driving it!

Re: 1998 DC2 Type-R resto complete (finally)

Brz is more entertaining and engaging in the twisties. Stock seats are much better for performance driving and the immediacy of the turn-in response is much more rapid in the brz—the front end on that car is wicked pointy.

ITR has a much superior drivetrain experience, is easier to drive fast and u can still hang tail with some proper braking (left foot or otherwise). Different animal. More benign and more fierce in the engine department. A lot more drama from the motor. Tons of character there. Brz has the better chassis though.

pretty much... if my BRZ had like a bit more power (and revved to 8k+), it'd be the missing part.

Ha thanks for the comparo on the BRZ I bet it would be close race around the track.

The Vtec crossover would be the missing part of the equation I'm sure.

Cool car man as you don't see many of them any more...and it should only go up in value. I miss the old Hondas I might have to test drive an EK SiR and see if it sparks the nostalgia.

Re: 1998 DC2 Type-R resto complete (finally)

stock vs stock, I think the BRZ would be a bit better in the corners...

That's one of the reasons why I haven't modified mine (other than better tires), its so stable/flat in corners/on-ramps.

Re: 1998 DC2 Type-R resto complete (finally)

Yeah RWD and more torque I wouldn't be surprised if it outran it at the track.

Can you upgrade sway bars to further stiffen or is it unnecessary? I have't researched the BRZ much.

Re: 1998 DC2 Type-R resto complete (finally)

for regular street use, I think its more than enough in stock form.

Like, I know its not a good gauge, but given how fast I can take those 270 degreen ramps (410NB to 407WB), vs what I could do on my previous cars (modd'd 240sx, CRX, etc).. its a big difference.

195k on the motor but it's holding up well, does burn standard honda b18c5 oil levels lol, but nothing bad at all. running 5w-30 motul 8100 xcess. i'm tempted to try out 0w-40 NSX oil tho \:D

The Lexus is also under $100 but they clean my mats, quick wipe down of the interior and top up all the fluids, pump up the tires and check for brake wear.

Just took my RDX to Acura.....its just under $100 bucks. They just run the car through a car wash.

Wife was disappointed it wasn't the same service.
