OBD Scanner

Anyone have a scanner to scan a Honda CRV? My dad's 2007 threw an CEL yesterday.

Re: OBD Scanner

see if you can grab an ELM327 for like $10 and then use the torque pro app to read/clear it.

Is it also compatible with iphone/ipad? Scanners vary so much in price I never knew if any of these were any good or reliable. Looking at kijiji and the ELM327 seems to run between $15-30 dollars

Not really out that way often, but thank you for the offer.

Re: OBD Scanner

FWIW: This is the one I have. It's on sale now for $35.

It reads and clears codes, and shows the status of the readiness monitors. The ELM327 does a lot more (I have a wifi one of those too), but it more of a hassle to deal with if it's just a CEL you want to check/clear.

Re: OBD Scanner

So since the CRV wasn't showing any noticeable signs of issues (ie troubles starting, engine knock, weird noises, power degradation) I told him to hold off on taking it somwehere until I get a sense if its feasible to determine what the error code is. I didn't want them to fleece my old man. Well despite that, he ended up taking it to a local shop. Surprisingly they told him to drive it into the bay. When he went to start it again, the CEL was off. So lucky for him it buys some time. Maybe it'll illuminate again, maybe not. At least now I have some options in buying a scanner and having some (low-level) insight what the error is before taking it to a shop who will charge $110 just to hook it up.

Yup. I have the same obdii as curry Eddie. Works well for the price. I think Amazon might be a bit cheaper
