When you sell a car privately

Do you keep your insurance on until the buyer fully transfers the ownership?
My broker says I should have it on until they do.
If something happens while it's still under my name, it will come back to me...
Doesn't really make sense to me but that's what he says.

Re: When you sell a car privately

I usually keep it insured till i sign the backpart of the ownership to the new owner. Then with a quickness call my insurance and cancel it.

nope. soon as i can't see the taillights anymore i'll pull insurance. new owner should already have insurance on it if not then tow it.

Re: When you sell a car privately

You used to be able to call/go to the MTO and ask for the car to be put under a sold status, that way there's a sold flag on it even if the new owner didn't register yet.

Could try that.. not sure if they still do it.

Signed/dated bill of sale says “it ain’t my problem anymore”
