Pls halp. I read good things about the General Altimax. It's supposed to actually be cheap but good. In the past, I've had Hankook Icept Evo 2 and those were great - though I'm sure tire tech has moved on. Has anyone tried Michellin Xi3? I do a ton of driving - and all my drives are long (read: 100+km round trips are the norm). And I drive storm or not at those distances. I would like to have some great rubber. Anyone have experience here? In the past, I've just gotten winters either used, or had some cheapy ones on an awd car. |

WS80 on the Volt. That car feels like a tank in the snow with the low COG. |

Michelin Xi3 is the shit. So was Xi1. Xi2 was a fucking nightmare -- they also only made them for 1-2 years. Just so happens I have a 225/60/R17 set for sale too I'm also running Michelin X-Ice Xi3 on my own ride. |

WAIT 225/60r17 how much?? |

i've always like the hankooks or yokohamas. |

I have the Altimax Arctic on my Coupe and they are incredible. Car is a tank in the winter for a lowered RWD car. I absolutely love them and sell them any chance I get. The XI3 is a great tire as well. For me, value for the money is hard to beat with the General. |

Agree on the Altimax Arctics. They are an old Gislaved design, they do VERY well in the snow, even when half worn out. Got a solid 80,000kms out of a set, which is not normal for winter tires. German made. Only problem is their sidewalls are a bit sloppy and can create a driving on Jello feeling on a car that is otherwise stiff. They are being discontinued this year though I think. I just bought the new version Arctic 12s, which were last years Gislaved Nord Frost 100. Hoping that they are bit stiffer since they are an XL load rated tire. Continental is the parent company for both Gislaved and General. Good to go with any of these brands. Michelin X-ICE3 is a good city of Toronto winter tire, probably rides the best and is one of the quietest, but it is not Scandinavian good as there is a Michelin X North in other markets to compete with the stuff like Nokian. |
Ive used various Hankooks over the years without issue. They are a more aggressive/knobby design and maybe a tad loud on bare roads, but they are beasts in any snow/ice/slush. I have an SUV sized set for sale too. |
Yup had hankooks on the 335d, besides the jello when flooring it at 100 it was great lol |
I'm running Nokians on the 335d, but have had great success running even the cheapest Walmart winters on all my TDIs. |

He needs a diff. It was pretty shitty with the open diff. |

honestly you can't go wrong with any winter tire. hakka (if you can afford) blizzak ws80 mich x-ice or conti whatever gislaved pirelli altimax or whatever other brand (in that order) |
I have the Conti Extreme WinterContact (now discontinued) on the BMW. It's easily the best winter tire I've run in the dry and wet that we spend most of the time in. It's quiet, grips well, and doesn't feel as soft and mushy as others I've used in the past (Pirelli, Blizzak, Yoko IceGuard). It lacks nothing in snow and on ice either. It's been replaced by the WinterContact SI. |

yes, they are great i hear. we just did a Yuge winter tire order here, we get all diff brands as we can use them for testing as well. man our prices...holy shit so cheap (not staff, i mean honda CANADA internal pricing direct from manuf...wow). conti is the only tire we can fit on the civic type-R lol, i have a ContiWinterContact TS830P i think it is coming... 245/30/20 |

I think TireRack is spec'ing 18s for winter use. Gotta be way cheaper and much more selection. |

if anyone needs new tires, PM me and I can check my pricing on them. |

TR shows over 300 18" rims that fit the car and they have done a good job in the past of measuring and spec'ing rims to fit a certain car, beyond just diameter/width/offset. Lots of guys on CivicX using 18s as well. |

Thought I read Honda had to use 20's on the ctr in order to clear the front suspension? |
There was barely any space between the rim and caliper on Screamin's CTR when he brought it out. |
That's just offset though. I'm talking about clearing the barrel. |

Yo eddie_82 thank you for the Conti Winter Si suggestion. I got them on the car. These tires are dope. Dry performance is *not* like a winter tire. Firm sidewalls, steering is still direct and accurate. Drives totally normal. Really good. If snow traction ends up being the same...wow. just wow. Sick tires. driving a car on winters no longer feels like punishment. |
Friend of mine just had them mounted on his car this morning too. Glad to have helped (PS: saw a baby blue CHR at Vaughan Mills yesterday. I looked at it and thought "I'd rather have a Rogue" ) |
winnn yeah cant wait to try them on the ctr |

When you all swapping out to the winters? Nov is a week away at this point. |

In these temps my tires are fucking useless. Hakkapeliittas will be going on soon. Temps are going to be hovering around 7 degrees or so for the next week. |
How old is too old for winter tires??? My sis now days her tires are 6-7 yrs old, and asked whether to chuck em or not... I haven't looked, but would imagine they're cracked.... (I usually think 5 yrs is the max.) |
Really depends on the tires, but those are about at their limit. |
7 years old?! They're toast man! Winter rubbers arent even any good once the sipes start to wear. |

haha so they look dumb -and- they're useless in snow/ice? awesome. |

They're ok in the snow depending on how old they are. But a $99 Walmart winter would have been better. |

we ended up with Pirelli Sottozero3 winters in 245/30/20, conti's N/A booo. still should be good to try these. |
