I don't think anyone is owed anything.
If you want to develop, by all means go ahead and develop, just preserve the character of the neighbourhood (meaning don't cut down healthy mature trees, wtf).
All these scumbuckets are buying in these neighbourhoods because the people who live there have made them desirable by preserving character, that's how it works.

If they want a neighbourhood with no character, then buy new. Wastelands with no trees. Cutting down old trees is fucking bullshit.

I'm so happy my neighbourhood didn't have all the big old trees cut down because of the ice storm a few years ago, or that stupid beetle thing.

After looking at streetview, I probably would have cut down the one near the end of the driveway. But that big tree on the corner would have stayed.
