1) thank the people who come to the ER for things that can be handled by their family dr or a walk in clinic....or a band aid.

2) do you honestly think that we have OR rooms and surgeons on standby all hours of the day and night with the ER volumes in toronto?

Re: Why isn't Wayne all over this? re: Ontario healthcare

Lame excuses. Still not acceptable that someone with LIFE THREATENING injuries has to wait 4 hours!!!

I went to Trillium last year for my G/F's pneumonia because the family doctor was too busy to see her. At one point I walked around and noticed that for a good 40 minutes, none of the hospital staff was doing anything. There was no work being done at all! The nurses were chatting at the nursing station because there was nothing to be done. No Doctor was anywhere to be seen. Turns out he was having lunch.

We took 3 hours for nothing more than a prescription for antibiotics!

I'm not pointing the finger at staff. Our healthcare system is just badly managed! The system is broken!

That's pretty much what the AG has concluded: Most of our healthcare problems come from bad management.

lol you straight up have no idea what you're talking about.

someone with life threatening injuries will be seen and sent to a OR stat, not 4 hours later, they would be dead. there's just so much wrong with what you said that i'm not going to even go into it, but you're 100% wrong.

you and your gf w/ pneumonia are part of the problem. if her family dr was too busy to see her either get a new family dr, or i'm guessing you live in some rural area where walk in clinics are non existent? pretty sure that a walk in clinic dr can read a chest xray and then diagnose. you took 3 hours because you were there for a non-urgent reason. i bet you guys didn't ask for a LIST of family doctors accepting patients during your 3hr ER wait.

the system is not broken, the system works but like any system there are flaws. nobody as 100% perfect health care system.

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!!

You just don't notice it because you're part of it.

As for my G/F being "part of the problem"... WTF else was I supposed to do? You can't get antibiotics without a prescription! G/F was running a 103 fever. Was I supposed to wait 2 days to see my family doctor? Even her receptionist said: GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!

Just so we're clear here:

THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!!!!

What would you propose we do next time?

Re: Why isn't Wayne all over this? re: Ontario healthcare

your brother in law is probably also incensed that you can walk into any given restaurant and order food and not expect to be made with toxic ingredients. what's your point?

what did you expect at the ER when you guys went in for (suspected) pneumonia...you're in the same place for people who were shot in the face 9 times, or in a horrible 12 car accident, and someone who sprained an ankle on the sidewalk. they kinda have to prioritize you to the bottom of the list...i'm sure it sucked and you were uncomfortable..but what did you expect the doctors to do at the ER for pneumonia? an emergency lung transplant with a clear healthy lung? the wait time would've been shorter if everyone with a boo boo would just go to a urgent care clinic instead of the ER for stupid shit. leave the ER for EMERGENCIES only, emergencies like person not breathing, limps dangling etc...

 Quote:

- A respirologist who worked for 361 days billed the province $1.3 million, close to five times more than the upper expected limit. The respirologist made claims for close to 12,400 services, about four times the upper expected range for the same billing category.

- A cardiologist who worked 354 days and billed the province $1.8 million, three times more than the upper expected limit for physicians in the same billing category. This cardiologist provided more than 13,200 services, 2.4 times the upper range of expected services for physicians billing in the same category.

- A diagnostic radiologist worked 313 days and billed the province $1.7 million, which is 2.8 times the upper expected limit for physicians in the same category. This specialist provided more than 57,400 services that year, 5.6 times the upper range of expected services for physicians in the same billing category.

so you expect to be seen within minutes of arriving at an ER but god forbid the people providing the service are billing for it, you're crying bloody murder.

what's broken? the system or your logic?

based on what you posted, i say we got a pretty good deal. the first guy did 4x the work and billed 5x, the second did 2.4x and billed 3x, the last guy did 5.6x and only billed 2.8x.

NO. the system is NOT broken. YOU are broken. how about next time you don't be a retard and use some common sense and go to a walk in clinic. oh sorry but the receptionist..wait let me say that again...the RECEPTIONIST told you go to the ER. oh but your gf had a 103 fever huh, she must have some kind of super fever if tylenol and/or advil didn't help at 99, 100, 101. is this her first time getting a fever? perhaps second? or probably close to the 20th+ time? hrmmmmmm......

how do you know that the doctor wasn't in the resuscitation room working on someone dying? how do you know if the doctor wasn't seeing someone with chest pain? or with an acute allergic reaction? take a second and think, how would YOU feel if you were being seen and someone came into the ER with their foot asleep and wanted the DR to stop looking at you, and tend to that person's mosquito bite? puts things in perspective doesn't it?

do you have any idea what a hospital in a third world county is like? i have had first hand experience. I am part of an organization called Guyana for the Children, we have decreased the infant mortality rate in Guyana by upward of 40% by sending down equipment, training nurses on how to use them, and instilling better practices. so with that in mind, care to tell me how our health care system is in any way on the same level as a third world country? i'll wait.

easy, take 4 days off instead of taking however many days we take off and then bitch and complain when we don't make enough money...

i don't know how doctors do their billing, but one can only assume they don't work the standard 8 hrs and any additional is treated as 1.5 or 2x as anyone would, regardless of fry guy at McDonalds or Doctor at hospital
