Who are you with currently? There are that many Rogers/iphone people? A lot of Rogers/Fido iphone unlocking services are available on Ebay for less than $10 CDN, where Telus, Bell cost $70+ or does it mean most people don't want Rogers and need to unlock it for other providers? Rogers/iphone 5S |

dont get it. cell unlocking is free in most cases--call your provider XD i feel like the general public doesn't know this. Many of the unlocking services just end up calling the provider for you and charge you a small fee. Just call them up, tell them you need it unlocked for biz travel as you're always on the road...and they'll do it up. A law passed some time ago that required them to unlock when requested. |
Rogers charges $50. This thread wasn't about unlocking. Just wanted to see who the most popular provider is. |
So you are trying to determine provider popularity based on unlocking cost? |

Originally Posted By: Risky Business So you are trying to determine provider popularity based on unlocking cost? Well, that's what made me wonder. I don't know how unlocking is done, but seems like there are number of sellers on Ebay battling to get Rogers/Fido unlocking customers lowering prices every single day by dime or so. I unlocked my friend's Fido iphone for less than $9 CDN. and it doesn't happen with Telus/Bell. Why? maybe because more sellers invested on Rogers unlocking equipment/software (I really don't know what they need) because there are more Rogers/Fido phones out there. More competitions - lower pricing. Stop calling me a dumbass and tell me who you are with, asshole! |

All my work phones have been with bell or Telus. I think rogers/fido are the most popular among the retail crowd... |

I have the Bell equivalent to this. 6GB data with unltd calling to 10 numbers anywhere in Canada. 200 daytime minutes, ultd text/MMS and enhanced VM. CSR called me trying me to switch to a new plan.. all i had to say is "look at my plan again" and they knew they can't touch it, basically admitted that i should stay put "but they have to ask". one guy ended up adding 100 cdn LD minutes for 1 dollar. compared to the best legacy corp plans my plan sucks, but compared to today's retail offers it's very good I got my phone from Rogers on a promotion and unlocked it online for 15 bucks. Now I use it on Bell's network and with any simcard I want in the US or Europe. |
My plan is $40 for unlimited talk/text Canada/US and 500mb data. If I go over the data limit I get charged a flat fee of $10 and I get an extra 10gigs (IIRC). So $50/month unlimited. |

Yeah that makes sense lol. In reality buying the phone outright vs. Paying more into the plan over 2 years is about the same. But fuck giving Rogers more money. |

I think a co-worker did the calculations of buying a phone vs signing on for 2 years (to get the phone at a discounted price), it was cheaper to purchase a phone and get a cheaper month/month contract from one of the discount providers. |

My old plan was annually as well but I was no longer an employee so I couldn't get more hw upgrades. ( I knew someone in Bell who hooked me up with a plan from a hospital) My current plan is with my GF's work (one of the big 4 Accounting firms). I carry a work phone as well. Don't pay anything for that but I don't use it aside from when I am out for work. In theory, I could just use that as no one calls me but I don't have a home phone so I need some sort of consistant number. |

No I am not. Both are Corp. listed side by side from the website. |
Our corp plans with Bell are $10/month cheaper if you BYOD versus a two-year term. There's big incentive to take the contract. But I'll stick with my grandfathered plan ($52 with 6gb and a bunch of travel/roaming discounts) and buy a new phone when I need one. |

That's still a $240 saving VS $500 off the phone. Why do you need 6Gb bandwidth from your phone? You should pay more and get 1Gb because 6Gb is clearly too much for everyone. Explain why. /Risky |

Protechparts.ca sale, $12 Rogers iPhone unlock. |

How do I get a better plan? My retentions plan didn't get renewed so I'm stuck with the share plan paying retail $100 for 5 gigs. Retentions doesn't give a shit when I try to cancel. I cancelled my TV&Internet because they didn't offer the gigabit/TV for $100 so I have 2 weeks to switch to something. Vas - how is Bell in Markham? Rogers is crap, 1 bar at home and 1 bar at the inlaws. |

Glad I stumbled across the cbc article. I did some research on how people were able to get the manitoba plan and I decided why not try it for my son's phone. It took a bit of a time to do it, but I was successful and now he has the $48 5gb, canada wide plan w/ koodo. I'd love to try to do it for myself, but to give up on the 6gb of data would be very hard to do at 60ish change a month. |
