Hi there. Just bought a new car and have a chance to trade in the GTI and need help deciding the value of the car. Here are the specs: Original owner bought from Georgetown VW 2007 GTI 5 door 98,000 KM 6 speed manual Candy white exterior Plaid cloth interior Comes with 3 sets of OEM rims (16" winters, 17" Stocks and 18" Huffs) Body has no rust Maintenance up to date New brakes and rotors just done I've checked trader and the prices are all over the place from 8000-13000. KBB says trade in value is 9000 on the low end. The dealer said they will offer wholesale value. Not sure how much lower that will be. Thoughts? |

Pics would help, sounds like a clean car and I am pretty sure the right person will pay at the top of your listed range for it. Depends how quickly you want to sell it. IMO the car should easily fetch 10k+ What did you get to replace it? |

M3 is too small once you jam in the stroller and other baby stuff. No rush to sell but hate to keep it insured. I had a bit of time and googled wholesale pricing...apparently dealers will use something called the Canadian Red Book to value trade-ins, which is a paid service. Apparently a free proxy for this can be found here: vmrcanada.com. Looks like it's worth ~$8500 so we will see what they offer. Btw the GTI looks exactly like this but white :P lol |

Congrats on the baby and new car! Don't tell the dealer about all the extra rims, they won't give you any extra, if you do trade it in, give them stock only and sell the rest yourself. It sounds like a nice car, how long do you have before you need to decide on trading it in or not? I agree with vas, more than 10k private sale is not out of the question |

Thx Rob and thanks for the tip on the rims. These will be easy to unload. The car on the otherhand would take time and patience. If I had the time I'd find the right buyer but with a new baby and work my free time is almost non existent. I have until next Sat to decide if I want to trade it in. If they are close to 10k inclusive of the tax savings on the new car I'd unload it. |

Yup my deciding factor with the 335d on selling private vs. Trade was based on tax savings as well. T&C used vmr. So that would be a good site to use as a baseline. Hanging on to the M3? Is it auto or stick? |

Hanging on to the M3? Is it auto or stick? Definitely hanging onto the auto M3...well unless gas prices goes up to $2/litre. In the short time since I've owned it, I havent found it to be as fun or engaging as driving the GTI. Maybe a few track days is needed to really appreciate the car for what it is. |

Haven't driven a gti, but I know what you mean. The car is fairly isolated and the steering could be better for feelz |

Def sell the rims separately. Depending on what the dealer is offering, it may not be worth the hassle to sell privately. Considering you have family and kids, if it was a within $1k, I'd just sell it to the dealer. The rims will make up the diff. Good luck. |

$3500, CASH! I can give you half now, and half when I get paid in two weeks if that's okay. |

Group buy. We'll be nice to the OP, $1000 each buys you a day of the week. $6k is CRAZY lowball. My 2002 Civic EP was $3500 before tax. |

Vas - replied to your PM. Hatorade - sorry, I went too far with the RFD comment :P Euphoric & eddie - pool your money and you can time share the car with each other lol A2B - $3500 isn't bad for a 13 year old EP3. |

Thats what I am thinking......don't need the hassle and low ballers for an extra $1000 maybe. Low kms or not, it was a good run. Originally Posted By: GimpCivic A2B - $3500 isn't bad for a 13 year old EP3. |

Here's an update from my first experience selling a car privately. I took a few cellphone pics of my car and listed the car for $9,500 on both on Kijiji and Autotrader. Comparable cars ranged anywhere from $10,500 to $12,000 with the higher priced cars from dealers. I think it was Faraz? I got quite a bit of interest (40+ separate calls/emails equally split between trader and kijiji) for the GTI likely due to the below market listing price and excellent condition and low KMs. I didn't have time to allow interested parties to come test the car and have it checked out by their mechanics. Instead I was fair to all parties and said the first one to meet me at said location with the $ gets the car. 3 interested buyers showed up and I sold it for $9500. There was one party that wasn't able to make it and offered over asking But I didn't have time for that. Things that helped the transaction go quick: -having the UVIP, safety certificate and e-test work done -unoffensive pricing Anyway, in the end I'm glad I didn't trade it in to the dealer for $6,000! |

Congrats That's how I approach private sales, I don't have the time or desire to try and get top dollar at the expense of my sanity dealing with people on the use car market. Price competitive for a quick sale and move on. Nothing worse than spending weeks on the phone with people explaining that having stone chips on a used car doesn't justify them offering you half price sight unseen (bro car needs a repaint bro I can't drive that with stone chipZ) |

ok ok i fight tooth and nail for every penny and it's also standard practice to take out the oem floormats before the sale and then sell them back to the owner via kijiji through my kijiji alias. Sometimes I keep the spare tire as well. problem? |

Sometimes I keep the spare tire as well. problem? LOL I see what you did there! Appearently, the dealer has a little internal theft issue. He was telling me it was probably not the old owners but someone who works at the dealership as there were multiple cars that had the same issue. |

Congrats Gimp on having a pretty hassle free sale! |
