In ChinAr the factories shut down for 2 weeks and the workers go back to their hometown to celebrate CNY with family. |

Traditionally speaking. If you were in Chinaland, what's the process? Koreans, typically women gather and cook for all day or even for a couple of days. Then we do the ceremony for the dead ancestors as if they come back for the day to eat. Then after ceremony, we eat. Followed by bowing to elders to get some $. (actually can't remember if this comes first or after the meal) Cooking on the floor is not unusual if you have a big family |

So. Many. Dead. Cats. I think a real traditional family in China might do a lot of that type of stuff. Tho in Chinese culture, you don't really include the dead in things unless on a very few days. In a modern household (this is me trying to remember over 20 yrs ago), you would visit your family for New Year wishes (known as "bai lean"). This is the best part of CNY. This is the part where they make it rain! This is the part where the elders give you the red envelopes filled with money. Do that for a while, you then go out for dim sum or something. Sometimes grandma would have a casual breakfast prepared. In the afternoon, you go see other friends and family. And rinse and repeat. Do that for a couple days. There are many traditional dishes but they don't take days to prepare. Maybe hours but not days. Unless you're talking about prepping My family is not a big drinking family, not sure if many are, but I've decided that when I have my own family, I'm going to make Chinese new year a drinking holiday |
