Alberta Cars?

I know there are mixed emotions on here regarding Quebec cars, but what about Alberta cars? I came across a private sale Odyssey. He's the original owner and has relocated with his family to Ontario. He has 4 kids but his eldest is now 17 and has his own car and he doesn't need a van anymore.

Just wondering if there is anything to be weary about with Alberta cars.

Re: Alberta Cars?

Because they don't use salt the paint takes a much worse beating and you can pretty much guarantee that the windshield has been replaced, likely more than once.

Re: Alberta Cars?

^ what he said

most local Alberta car has cracked windshield because they don't use salt. They don't rock front plates so some car might not have holes on front bumper

Re: Alberta Cars?

yeah most mid west cars (warranty or not) we see have quite the worn underbodies, almost sand blasting on the control arms/most of suspension/etc too (usually cars driven outside the city of course), so watch for that and bad tierods/balljoints/premature worn susp stuff. eddie's right too, sooo many windshields done again due to stone chips.

no salt but i think they use some brine mixture now? i know for sure they use mainly sand (varying sizes/style). paint can be harsher on them but not always.

another thing, it's funny as some ppl have long drive cycles (again, more rural cars) but many ppl out there have such short drive cycles....esp in those winters, not good on the motor/oil over many km's so maintenance is KEY on these cars.

overall i dont see issue with it. i bought my STI from AB. - he sent me bunch of pics, car looked clean but he was honest about the dents/dings. the front lower lip was pretty harsh with scratches/chips and the rear quarters were quite 'sandblasted' looking from the wide arches on the car, given it was from AB as mentioned above. rims had some minor rash too.

the owner fedex'd me all the paperwork i needed to go to the ONT ministry, i fedex'd him the money order, waited 12-14 days and the car came in by rail via Livingston Intl. I picked it up near Hwy 7 and Keele - huuuuge rail yard. (i believe zc911 is on a first name basis with everyone there by now, lulz).

Re: Alberta Cars?

No salt, outside of higher mileage vehicles from people driving to/from calgary/edmonton regularly there's nothing to be leary of outside of the usual unknown accidents but that's what carproof is for.

Unless you want a jacked up truck.

You can replace a ton of engines for the cost of bodywork.

He's right. There are some amazing cars out here. People daily drive cars from the 1960s and 70s.

When I was back in Toronto at Christmas, on the way back from the airport, I found I said to myself, "why are the cars rusty here?".

The only things that rust out here are modern Chryslers. I'm not kidding.

And Mazdas - you can't say Mazdas don't rust up on ya. You look at them wrong and they start rusting.

Not out here. I'm not kidding.

I was blown away when I went to a junkyard for the first time out here. Cars from the 1940s and 1950s - not rusty anywhere but where the sun has baked off the paint and surface rust set in.

My GF's Mazda 3 was terrible. Saw a trace of rust and traded that mofo in with the quickness.

He, or rather his wife, decided to trade it into the dealer rather than sell it privately.
