How much off? v. $7900 carproof.

GF is looking at a car, 2011 328i x-drive. Clean car, somewhat rare in configuration. Price is competitive, but, there's a claim on it. Carproof says $7900 estimate or whatever. Damage was in July 2014. 4 yr old car, lease just ended Jan 2015. Repair looks damn clean.

Car is asking ~25000. Naturally he tells me, pricing is firm.

WWCSi do?

By rare I mean the packages are colour are exactly what she wants. It's also not unheard of to find another as desired. She's willing to walk, but also willing to buy if price is right. It's already been established it will go to BMW for a PPI if price is negotiated fairly. Problem is, what's fair.

was the repair done at a bmw dealer or cert'd shop to repair the car? can you see the report/write up of what was damaged and repairs? frame work needed? electronics ok? (lol)

if there were any airbag deployment codes, find out which bags were replaced...but most importantly find out if they're OE bags that were installed. you do NOT want a car with improper bags installed (shit's happening more and more these days, it's scary).

im sure JEHSON or someone more experienced in the field of collisions could prob give you more tips/advice.

Find another. It's 328xi. They are like civics lol. Why buy one that had 8grand of damage? When she goes to sell it, good luck. Even this guy selling it, good luck. Is the tittle rebuilt?
At 8gs he probably rearended someone and got a new bumper, hood, air bags, maybe a rad support pull. Did he tell you what happened ?

Re: How much off? v. $7900 carproof.

Didn't see the ownership to see the title, it's at a dealer (as lease just ended - papers were in glovebox). This car was rear ended. I was thinking to myself, 8k in rear end damage? wow. Everything opens and closes perfect. Everything lines up. We've not gone into trying to find out who fixed it, etc.

You guys are gonna say to leave it to be someone else's problem aren't you? At what savings, if any, would it be worthwhile?

Re: How much off? v. $7900 carproof.

Leave it alone, if she plans to keep it for a while, you run the risk of rust. If she doesn't, you run the risk of a big loss when you sell it.
If it was like 2-3k not a huge deal, 8k is a pretty good amount of damage.

Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole, if he sold it for half of his asking price I suppose id consider it....nah even then I wouldn't lol

ZC is right, RUST, even if they did a great job fixing it. As soon as that metal creases and the ED coating rubs off.

RIPMW or something like that?!

Re: How much off? v. $7900 carproof.

Rear ended? Fuck that, if there was any quarter panel work done shit is toast. Like ZC said, 328xi's are the civic's of BMW's. What makes this particular one "rare"? FYI, for 2011 BMW put out a executive special that came with premium and executive package. Cars were fully loaded minus leather and went for cheap since the auto was no charge and they were heavily discounted.

These 2011's coming off lease typically have a buyout around $26k just to give you an idea.

Re: How much off? v. $7900 carproof.

Yeah, the rust thing sealed the deal for me/us.

Blue with idrive, xdrive, and less than 30k on it for under 25k. There's another one I'll go check out tomorrow. They're not rare, just not at every turn. Buyout on this one was 22k. Guy paid 680/month * 48 + 4300 down to drive it for 27000kms. That's $1.37/km

Why does down payment affect buyout. That value should be a fixed % of MSRP since you have no equity in it.

Re: How much off? v. $7900 carproof.

Hatorade is right (OMG) at 8gs there must have been some kind of pulling, have it be the quarters or the trunk pan. 8gs means the car got rear ended hard, not like a little bs tap for $500 for a repaint or new bumper cover.

Stay the fuck away from that car. $8000 in damages? No thanks. If they're claiming $8000 I can imagine what was really wrong with it.

And furthermore I thought it's been said 100000 times on this board.

STAY AWAY FROM ALL THE SHADY ASS DEALERS IN THAT AREA.

If the dealer you're looking to buy from is one of these red dots, stay away.

Also I've had bad experiences with vehicles offered or purchased at premium brand dealers too, so IMO it's all 100% buyer beware regardless of who's got the car.

Yes, you can PM me. But to be honest for the average joe, it;s not worth it.
You cannot even see the car before you buy, never mind a test drive, and eveything is as is.
