School me on snowmobiles

Looking at getting an older one and willing to spend $1000 to $1500 what should I be looking at? Probably a 2 seat model so I have the option to take someone when I go.

Re: School me on snowmobiles

Look for something that's not a giant piece of shit, lol.

Stay away from Polaris fan cooled 550s. An older Skidoo would probably be your best bet. Not rockets, but they are reliable. Also stay away from triples.

This would suit you perfectly.

Do not buy something that old unless you like giant pos with hard (or impossible ) to find parts and/or fixing shit all the time

it's quite possible people do discuss topics, at length, with others, in real life.

In that price range there were a bunch of skis around 96 to 2001 ranging from 400cc to 600 or so. What's the minimum cc I should be looking at?

What are you going to be using it for? I'm guessing just trail riding if you want a 2-up? Worry about a good engine before you worry about cc's, especially at that age.

Yup just trail riding, will have it parked at the cottage and go on the trails from there.

Re: School me on snowmobiles

and fyi I was not critiquing the link provided. Thats probably new enough to be ok.
More of a recommendation of OP not to follow his snow blower escapades (getting stuff THAT old).

A mid 90's machine will be fine. Still lots of parts available, extremely easy to fix if you have to (2-stroke yo!) and depending on the engine they are fairly reliable.
