Anyone getting rid of a beater?

Our beater was just written off by insurance. I've been searching the usual channels and all I'm seeing is crap. The decent cars are already sold when I message them. Anyone have anything?

Still waiting on the adjuster to get back to me with a final value.

Risky?

Re: Anyone getting rid of a beater?

My brother has a 2001 honda civic 4dr, auto, 266k, black on grey. Some rust on rear and spots on roof. Decent interior. Etested sold as is. Crack in windshield and AC compressor has a bearing shot in it. Located in Mississauga. $1200

Any pics available? What does it need to certify? Just the windshield?

Re: Anyone getting rid of a beater?

I've got a 2000 EX. 5 speed manual, silver, almost no rust on the quarters. 320,000km. Previous owner says timing belt was done at 200,000. The only thing that doesn't work is the A/C. I replaced the condenser and tried to refill the unit but still nothing. Engine runs smooth but I'm sure I'll need to recharge the battery as it's been sitting for a while. $1k obo (as is). The car is in the Erin Mills Town Center area.

Edit: everyone ok after the accident?

Re: Anyone getting rid of a beater?

Damn my '98 beater has 290k with barely any rust and working AC must be worth a mint lol

Re: Anyone getting rid of a beater?

Rant!

Finally get the quote back from the adjuster which is WAY TOO LOW, fine. So we start talking about options etc. Every option he gives me buying it out, taking the cheque etc etc leaves me out of pocket roughly $1000-$1500 worst off is his fucking attitude of he's doing me a favour because it's a 99 EL. FUCK YOU!!!

Now I'm doing this friggin dance with him back & forth of finding comparables through Auto Trader, Kijiji & Craigslist only for him to tell me he can't accept any of my links. WTF

I had to pretty much school him, but in insurance terminology (thanks to the GF & her co-workers) for him to review his bullshit. I'm not waiting months for this shit to be resolved. I already let it slide that he wanted me to buy a new car seat and then they'll reimburse us. No more.

FYI I was found 100% not at fault, police report, witness, pictures etc

Yeah it was more of a shove, compared to a hit. Guy in a silverado reversed into my rear quarter panel with his extended tow hitch and kept going so it buckled and tweaked the trunk and smashed the light.

Hatorade I'd take a clean 98 with working AC anyday.

They put us in a 2014 Kia Optima & it gets the exact same mileage as the EL wtf

Re: Anyone getting rid of a beater?

wow. i'm surprised. when a red light runner plowed into wife's car (9 yr. old rav-4 -- i was driving it and by myself - thank goodness) ... they gave us a decent amount (they even attested it was on par w/ trader.ca for that year and mileage).

the only thing was my assigned adjuster wasn't very responsive so i escalated and the manager took my case (to which i helped with providing my pictures and all details) -- i was also found not at fault.

maybe the only recourse you have is to escalate as well to see if you get a better pay out?

Re: Anyone getting rid of a beater?

Wow... I rarely see 7th gens with rust on the rear quarter like that (that was only a problem on the 5th/6th gens) Interior looks rather mint tho...

My 315k beater's got no 'visible' rust... The worst rusting is under the weatherstripping on the driver door's A-pillar area.

It's decent for what it is. I had this huge review typed out and it didn't go through. If there something you're looking for I can comment on that. Basically good appliance, with great bluetooth, a bad blind spot at the B pillar and over sensitive steering.
