New Rogers internet packages

Holy everything changed, but in a good way.

My current $86 plan with modem rental
150Gb bandwidth, 45 Mbps down, 4Mbps up

The new Hybrid Fibre 150 plan
$86

350GB bandwidth, 150 Mbps down, 15Mbps up

I get 60% off my internet, so it's like $34 a month.

I have to go pick up the new modem.
I'm gonna leave the current speed here, and will compare when I get the new modem. Maybe tomorrow or thursday.

I haven't got the new modem yet, but the speed is already increased. It's not up to the advertised 150Mbps down yet, but exceeded the maximum speed of 15 Mbps Up.

Re: New Rogers internet packages

lol, yeah i just posted this (below) in the Bell hater thread a couple of days ago....basically rogers now has a hybrid fibre optic network with cable

so just got rogers fibre setup today (hybrid via cable), got a smooookkking deal with the 60mb/s speed package after talking to their CR dept....pretty much half price for 2yrs no lock in/contract. was gonna go 30mb/s as planned but couldn't pass up the 60 with 120gig cap. also worked a new cellphone deal (early hardware upgrade as well).

it's like $37/mnth after speaking with their CR Dept and setting up the new plan (they did a combo deal with our cableHD, but drop only the net pricing, not cable pricing). still way better than 54.99+tx for 25mb/s before

that includes the new faster wifi modem in the plan which they dropped to about $8.50 /mnth instead of $12/mnth.

rogers site tested at 77.5x and 12.xx with 7ping.

Oh, didn't see that.
Not sure if it's considered fibre optic. I think it starts with fibre at Rogers end, but what we get here is still connected with copper wires.
I guess that's why they call it a "Hybrid" fibre.

Re: New Rogers internet packages

I just called Rogers again, because I noticed that Fibre 150 category on the website asking for Check Availability.
When I entered my postal code, it said I wasn't eligible. WTF

So, I talked to the Rogers people and they assured everything is fine.
and I get extra 200GB for having TV, internet, and the Mobile service with Rogers.
The last agent told me that extra 200gb is for new customers only.

Now my plan is $34. 150 Mbps, 550Gb cap.

and the extra 200GB comes with,
Rogers TechXpertTM:

Rogers TechXpertTM Whole Home (valued at $14.99/month)

Router and wireless network assistance
Computer and network peripherals
Digital devices (storage and gaming)
Smartphone and tablet support
Software install and setup support
Virus/malware/spyware removal

I had 30% discount on my cable, but it expired in January. I called today to get my discount back (just noticed the bill), and they wouldn't, so I cancelled it.

Have to wait for the winback call, Rogers retentions is useless now. Oh and Vas, don't use stream netflix HD, what about torrents? What about working from home. Its not 2000 anymore dude, there is a need for highspeed internet access.

If they let me go there is no winning me back this time. I caved last yr during a winback call but not this yr. If I don't get something more stable in terms of price long term this yr I'm gone. 50% or not I'd rather go to tecksavvy and be done with rogers internet once and for all.

You cancel & still have service. You have 30 days to return the box before they actually cancel your service.

Pretty much after you call & cancel with Rogers, you wait 2 hours and call winback themselves. They give you good deal & your good. No downtime.

I usually wait 30 mins to be honest & just tell them my friend just got this deal & this is the process he went through, so I want it to. Has never failed me.

this is another thing I'm worried about. there are so many simple, great, modems that can be had for $100 or so. All it does is modem stuff...lol. Then I can get any router I want from $3 to $300. These modem routers, especially the rogers ones, blow big time. The majority of them do anyway. I have a cisco 3825 as well and it has been pretty stable. But all others I read about are just junk.....just like their pvr's. But rogers doesn't allow them, even tho third party resellers of a rogers service allows them no problem.

Yeah Bill. I went through a nightmare trying to get this modem up and running. I opted to buy it for 99$ at futureshop one day as it was on sale. I called rogers before I bought it to make sure everything was cool. They said buy it. I did and when I got home tried to set it up and wasnt working. They said I need to return my rental modem in which I did. Then rogers tells me I have to still pay for rental as part of my agreement. I yelled at them and had them bring up my recent history and said you guys told me to buy it. Long story short after 3-4 days of back and forth I was set to go with my purchased hitron.

Re: New Rogers internet packages

I would buy the modem but every couple of years they change their packages that requires switch of modems as well.

I had bought a Motorola one that I could no longer use because they limited bandwidth at 80Gb or something. So rented the black and red circle one.
That modem was replaced with a new one because it stopped working a few months ago.
Now they say that modem won't support the fibre hybrid package, so I had to get a new one.

So rental modem had been working out for me.
3 different modems in last few years.

I own my pvr's so I don't need that and I'm pretty sure i'll be switching the internet either way. Fuck this nonsense. Rogers regular prices are astronomical!
I also like the fact that Teksavvy as unltd bandwidth between 2am and 8am. I can do all my major torrenting during that time. And they have quite a few good modem options available too vs. Rogers.

This is what happens:
1) you call and say "I want to Cancel"
2) they send you to "retentions" dept (which used to be really good)
3) retentions offers you a bogus deal, you again say "I want to cancel"
3a) in my case I also say this "I wish I could be there when you tell your boss that you lost a customer that has been with Rogers for 40yrs" There is always dead silence after that sentence is said (its my fathers account actually).
4) a different Rogers dept. will call you up sometime before your official cancellation date and offer you something better than the bogus offer given by retentions in step 3. Last yr they called me back then next day.

Last yr they offered me a better deal than the original bogus retentions offer which I declined again. Then they finally gave me back the 50/30 deal so I stayed. My first offer from retentions last yr was 20%off internet and 15%off tv. I told the guy that was a slap in the face!
