Finally ditching Bell internet.

Been with Bell since I originally bought my first house. Decided to stick with them when I moved into my apartment...bad idea lol. Holy shit is my connection terrible. I don't have tv/sat anymore and just stream/dl everything. The highest package they offered for my area was the 5mb down, figured that would be ok for now. WRONG! Max speed I have seen is 1.5mb down lol.

Called Cogeco and the girl on the phone laughed when I told her what I was getting. New connection goes in soon. Can't wait to have a decent connection.

Oh and Bell retentions called me yesterday and offered to set me up with a GREAT TV/phone/net package....for $40/month more than I was already spending lol.

Sometimes you don't have a choice if you want highspeed.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

When they're not overpriced it's pretty decent.

Rogers has addressed every issue I've had quickly, efficiently, and with very friendly and helpful technicians. And I'm paying less (for internet) than I would be with TekSavvy or the other resellers.

It works for me.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

I got both of Rogers targeted offers last year - multiple times. If you have cable with them and no internet they come at you with some pretty decent offers. I finally bit when they added 3 months of free service and free installation to the offer.

Free installation... You mean you can't connect some coax to a modem and plug in a wall wart? Lol what a joke they even advertise that

Exactly. That was my issue at my house and at the time my Bell connection was great and priced right(retentions ftw).

However now my connection is fucking HORRIBLE. The only reason I don't have my cable internet hooked up yet is because Bell requires 30 days notice to cancel and I didn't want to pay for 2 services.

I haven't even attempted to play any MP xbox games because it would be pointless.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

Have you tried running a wired connection straight from the router? This would rule out a wifi issue, which is very common in a dense area like an apartment building.

Oh yeah it's wired. Even the tech installing it said this was the fastest I would ever see because of the location and the distance from the hub.

Any particular reason that you think Cogeco will be better?

Can't be any worse. They have assured me thatg it will be exponentially better....we'll see about that. But for what I am paying and what I will be paying they are offering 5x the speed and 2x the usage for basically the same price. Just the usage alone is worth the switch.

3Mb up
300Gb cap

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

Bell (not bundled)
$50
25 down
10 up
100gb
I get consistent speeds.

I initially had a promo for a year(same package but less $). Price then went way up. I called and they gave me a close price as before. Fine with me.
I tried teksavvy cable and it was just a nightmare trying to get hooked up and I had no internet for over a month(after I was supposed to). Teksavvy was at the mercy of rogers and said their hands were tied. So I left.

That was one of the plans they offered me. +3 months free, modem and installation included. The one I got was cheaper with lower speed and cap. And yes, it's waaaaay cheaper than the off-the-street prices on the Rogers site. And no time commitment either, it's month to month and the price is guaranteed for something like 8 years.

This is one of the biggest reasons I avoided the re-sellers. They can't do shit for most issues you may have. And when they do contact Rogers to get you a technician, it's the lowest priority for Rogers to handle it.

yup. They had issues with getting me on the grid. I spent a bit of time on dslreports too, running tests they wanted to see etc. In the end it had to be handled by rogers. gnsp.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

I'm with Electronic Box

Pay $37 a month for 15 down, 1 UP and 250gb cap. I also get free dryloop.

Never had an issue with re-sellers and DSL. Even when I was with acanac if I had a slight issue they would resolve it right away. They even sent their own tech out to follow up bells initial switch over to verify it was done properly and my speeds were good.

same here

I have free modem, on the extreme service (71.99/mth) I get 50%off
TV i'm on digital vip, free pvr, I forget what it is monthly I get 30% off of that as well.
This is usually in 1yr increments but I'm not complaing. Speed is great, and tv is great as well, and the price is reasonable too

Yeah, that plan is only for new customers, but retentions can apply it.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

The plan is for existing customers as well. I'm far from a new customer. LOL I swapped over to Rogers from Fido in 2010.

I only added the $45 plan this year as I started downloading & utilizing netflix a whole lot more. I should add I also get a free modem with that deal. Rental fee is waived.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

spoke to a contact at robbers yesterday....word is rogers is allowing fibre optic connection for residential users (no idea on cost but im sure it'll be more ), but very quick speeds. apparently he said (re. my plan) that it'll only be like $3/mnth to bump my speed and cap more than double - mind you i know a buddy or two in aurora that have this already...so maybe they did the lines in my 'hood recently? no idea.

i'm contemplating going to teksavvy for the 25mb or maybe 35mb plan, get the docsis3 with newest software and my own router. im using rogers wifi modem/route now (not the new best one, the flat black one), it's ok but range is shit.

i'm annoyed with my phone as well and am trying to work something out with that with them (apparently canada computers is now an authroized repair/reseller of samsung for rogers). tho my plan is decent, just the s3 is crap now.

Re: Finally ditching Bell internet.

so just got rogers fibre setup today (hybrid via cable), got a smooookkking deal with the 60mb/s speed package after talking to their CR dept....pretty much half price for 2yrs no lock in/contract. was gonna go 30mb/s as planned but couldn't pass up the 60 with 120gig cap. also worked a new cellphone deal (early hardware upgrade as well).

rogers site tested at 77.5x and 12.xx with 7ping.
