Loc: Barrie, Ont,
Flying out to Vancouver this weekend and driving back over 10 days. I don't think I'm going to bring all my lenses, was thinking maybe...2? Here are the choices to go along with my 7D mk II.

EF-S 10-22mm
EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8
EF 70-200 F4 L IS USM
EF 100-400mm.

I definitely don't wanna miss out on any wildlife, so I think the 100-400 is a no brainer. The other choice to me is between the 10-22 and the 17-55. Am I going to miss 7mm on the short end with not bringing a UWA? Although I'm gaining f/2.8 with that opposed to the 10-22mm. Almost all of these pics are going to be landscape of some sort.

That mid zoom is 28mm FF equivalent on the 7D, and at least for me, that's really not wide enough for landscapes. Depending on what kind of landscapes you're doing you could shoot vertically and stitch together frames to get a wider FOV, but if you have anything moving in the shot that won't work, or at least it'll be a bitch in PP.

I'm not of much use here, I went to half a dozen parks in UT/AZ over the last ten days and pulled out my 70-200 once, in Bryce. I just don't see in telephoto most of the time. I found my most used FL's to be 25mm (actually more like 23mm for this lens) and 35mm (shot a lot of panos with this one). I found 85mm to be plenty for the long end. The 17-55 would make a great walk around lens, but for landscapes it'd be too limiting. If you must only bring two, and one needs to be the 100-400mm, I would take the 10-22mm as the second. Why not pick up the 40mm pancake to get a little coverage in the middle? It's dirt cheap, optically fantastic, and tiny.

The 40mm suggestion is good, but is covered by the 17-55 if you take that. I have the 40 and its puny, looks ridiculous on my gripped bodies, but takes nice sharp pics.

I'd leave the 70-200, take the other three. The wide lenses are on the smaller side of the lens spectrum and shouldn't be too burdensome to travel with. You'll want the width of the 10-22, and the 17-55 is great for everything else. 100-400 is perfect for wildlife and gives you lots of zoom range for other stuff.

I don't think the third lens will kill you and that kit will cover just about anything you'll want to shoot.

Thanks guys, that's kinda along the lines I've been thinking. 20-700 is staying home. Just got a compact tripod from Amazon so that will fit in my carry on as well. I'll see what I can fit in my Pelican (I'd really like to take the 17-55 as a walk around lens along with the 10-22 and the 100-400)

Craziest part is it's a 1.4. Bill would post a photo now but he is renting a fisheye and a scaffold so he can get the whole thing in the frame.

I could be pretty happy with pentax's 60-250 f4, so my vote is the 70-200 and either wide option, with a preference to the 10-22.

This is the truth.

You are going on an epic trip. Bring them all and don't miss anything by not bringing one lens.

Also agree. Figured there was a specific reason that he couldn't bring everything, so I responded to the question asked. I've gotten used to lugging all my shit everywhere so it doesn't bother me anymore.

Over the limit for checked bags? JFC how big of a pelican do you have for a body and a couple lenses?

Grab a shoulder bag, carry on the body, 70-200, and the 10-22. Maybe buy/bring the 40mm pancake too. If you want the 100-400, bury in the middle of your suitcase wrapped in a towel or sweatshirt.
