There's so many grey areas and loopholes in the program, I've stopped trying to pay attention. You know in the US right now there are people hoarding dozens, hundreds, of TDIs that they bought after the scandal broke and are still eligible for the buybacks? You can literally buy an eligible TDI on CL today from some unknowing schmuck for pennies and turn it in for a nice profit.

VW has not finalized the deal to do buybacks in Canada yet, it's still in the courts. There's no way this car was a buyback under the emissions scandal. Something shady is going on.

I don't understand the outrage.

If the car was turned in and the dealer fixed it to meet the required emissions why can't they sell the car back? (let's ignore dealer profit because that's just internet speculation, unless you know exactly how it works: ie if the car is fixed and resold, vw pays pays for the buyback to original buyer, but then when resold the dealer owes whatever they sold it for to vw net of small profit for their troubles vs if car is turned in bought back not resold, dealer is paid xx,xxx by head office - none of you know how it works so it's a moot point).

I thought the option was dealer buys back car or dealer "fixes" it for you and you keep driving it (at expense of shittier mileage).
