So, not even sure if that's the right term, but I walked through the metal detector, and it beeped. Sure enough, the security guard says "Oh you've been randomly selected for a search" ...  Not sure how random that was; it was the detector that beeped, so not really random.
I got my ass patted down, and the only metal I could think of was perhaps my (platinum) ring I had on ... No belts, coins, wallet, phone, money clip, nada.
On my way back, sure enough, same fucking thing. I even took off the ring before walking in. This time they had a body scanner available, and said I have the option of choosing a manual pat down, or the machine.
I chose the machine. BEEP BEEP BEEP. I walk out, and see a massive red rectangular blob in my left pocket.
Guy asks what's in there, and I say CASH. I've already removed my carbon fibre money clip, so it ain't that... (And plus, it's CF wtf.)
Sure enough, I take the wad of cash out, the guy says WHOA, I go back in, and I'm clean...
All new 'plastic' bills... Don't think I smoked weed or have any other chemical residue on the bills ..
Dafuq?
CN: metal detectors seem to detect large wads of cash...

I have flown to the U.S. a number of times over the past few years (California, Ohio, New York, Florida) and each and every time when leaving the U.S. NO ONE goes through the metal detector. They force EVERYONE to go through the AIT scanner, which to my knowledge should be random and optional. Well I decided to opt out and go for the pat down. Bad choice on my part as they decided to make an example out of me. Needless to say, I always go through it now.

Not at the size of wad of cash, but because I was going thru the scanner.  It was 8-9 $100 bills. Can't make it rain, can't buy a Matrix with that.

wtf when i was going through airport security they made me take my wad of cash out and put it in the bin. i watched that shit like a hawk before some tsa agent had sticky fingers.

The worse part is that these TSA agents are uneducated high school drop outs.
i avoid US as much as i could. Especially now that the CDN is so low, i think i would just stop ever going to into the US.

always throw your wallet and keys into your backpack/briefcase/carry on. and zip it up.
This. I also take off my belt because it always sets off the metal detector. The only thing I don't remove is my watch and have never had a problem with it and if they do they can fuck themselves!

I get pulled into the secondary inspection almost every fucking time.. and I'm the whitest mother fucker on here. Bag always gets searched too.. get home and find a note from the tsa sitting in my luggage.
Me too. My wife was wearing this hoochie summer dress one time and got "randomly selected". Fucking perverts lol.

I get selected sometimes to step into that scanning machine. No big deal.
Travelled with the kids last week and was able to bypass the long lines via the family lines. If you have a double wide stroller, they might make you go into the wheelchair lineup. Sweet.

Never see anyone get called out to take off their watch. It can happen no doubt and is discussed a lot on the boards. Buts rare that TSA will require someone to take off their watch, especially an expensive one.
