Regardless of my class status which is meaningless, I'll tell you #2 is the mother fucking key that took me far too long to put into place. 15 years of being self employed and #2 is the KEY to success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1) incorporate a business
2) do something that makes someone rich even richer.
3) Live on a legit expense account
4) invoice for making rich person richer
5) deposit HST refund
6) profit.

I even filled in the f'in blank!

I didn't say I was, it's irrelevant, but yes, for the most part unless you can build an enterprise that can take xxx/month from every citizen like a cell phone provider, etc, I believe the way to do it is to make someone who's rich even richer.

It's depends if you own the business a modest sales number / income number vs the big guys works too because you only have to pay a few people and you're at the top of that chain.

My buddy does landscaping and makes close to what I do. As he grows and gets more crews running I'm sure he will surpass it.

If something I'm selling sells 50k in a week I consider it crap - but if someone I know sells 10k in a week and it's a smaller organization they could be ballin

Clearly you're reaching a larger audience, and need a huge team to do so. Your buddy in landscaping sounds like he's doing well and that's awesome. Being in the service sector and charging money I've found is harder to do well and retain customers than my "making rich people richer" example, because you're a cost center. By helping to make people money you're a cost involved with a profit center, I've found it easier to negotiate, easier to get paid, and more consistent smiling faces all around.

Not too long ago I was at a cross roads of deciding if I should continue working a decent/safe job and do a side hustle (consulting as a contractor for small to mid sized businesses) or if I should continue climbing that corp ladder and jump ship to whoever is paying more.

At the end of the day I did kick off my little consulting gig in terms of infrastructure, I setup the website, made some calls, went out with people to get advice, build/refresh my network, reached out to agencies that held contract gigs and had the whole thing ready to go (while looking for a new job as well).
In the end for me personally it came down to one very basic variable: time. If I work 40 hours a week at my old job and the consulting is another 20, I am giving up a total of 60 hours of my time to make a secured income of XXX (provided by my stable job) and the potential of an xx% on top of that from my consulting gig (not guaranteed, depends on client, depends on market, season, etc) and that’s just billable time, doesn’t include all the time I am out there whoring myself or driving to all these different locations and on average longer commuting overall.

On the flipside, continue honing existing skillset and continue to work for someone, except take on more responsibility, but at least you are working *core* hours. Yes there is overtime here and there, but it would be NOTHING like the draining schedule of a full time job and a side hustle. Since I never planned for the side hustle to become a fulltime thing I felt my hours spent growing through a corporation was better bang for the buck and therefore more lucrative than working a less demanding job that allowed a side hustle with obviously more risky income stream.

A thousand ways to skin a cat, do whatever works for you and your situation imo. Just more struggling middle class things here.

Vas, if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. Nothing wrong with what you're doing of course. My GF climbed the corporate ladder and honestly most days I tell her if it wasn't too late for me I'd do the same, in a company that could support significant growth.
