The current one is probably 15+ years old (we're the 2nd owner of this house, so I'm assuming this one was bought new by the previous home owner). It's still in good working condition (stays cool in the normal setting, the door seals are still good -- still got good suction when door is closed), it just looks dated (beige) and it'll probably die soon?
Wasn't actively looking / researching - but figured I may score one as places like Brick / Futureshop all have black friday sales online.
Looking into getting a bottom mount (so freezer can slide out as a drawer) -- undecided between a french door set up or just have a single door. Any pros and cons between the 2?
Definitely no water dispenser and ice maker -- at least not worth the premium IMO.
Could be in SS or black (to match our dishwasher).
What brands are good?

We had a 25 cf French door for 8 years, and it was great. Easy to load anything in. Our current house has an old, crappy side by side, and we hate it. You can't fit anything wide into it at all. We really miss the water dispenser. It was nice having cold water available any time. We now have to use a Brita filter, which is a pain to keep refilling.

^ what was the brand at your old house?
yeah, in-laws and my mom's place have a side by side; the middle "walls" waste so much space -- stupid design.
we have a reverse osmosis filter so we can just get water straight off the tap; wifey doesn't drink ice water anyways so having that would be useless.

We had a Kitchenaid Architect fridge. No problems at all.

I've heard anecdotal stories about Samsungs looking all purdy, but not lasting much past the warranty period of 1 year.
I have the smallest ~23.7cf Samsung SS French, and the LED panel ended up with 2 stuck pixels after 6-8 months...
I was extremely limited in the French SS models that were counter-depth... I have 1/4" clearance on all sides 
I have water/ice dispenser, but my insurance adjuster buddy said water damage from the fridge lines is in the top 3 claims...

I've got an LG which has an ice maker built in on the French door. Its pretty good. No issues after 2 years so far.

So far, it's been issue free. We too were deciding at the time on a single door vs french. Ended up with this one because opening the door doesn't require as much space (swinging open a 1.5 ft door vs a 3 ft door).
Like you, we didn't want a water/ice dispenser. This one has both - the water dispenser is inside the fridge on the left, and an ice maker/bucket in the freezer. We simply didn't hook up the water to it.
Had it for about 3 months now? It's been good so far.

It's great having the freezer on the bottom. I don't have to bend over as much - love it.

yeah i feel bad dumping my current one as well - if my garage is a bit longer, i'd move it out there and use it to store beer and ice cream (free up even more space for the one inside the house).
maybe donate it for use at like habitat for humanity or something?

Up until last week I had a 1980's fridge in my house. I posted about it before, i did the math with on/mid/off peak for running my old fridge at current rates vs. new fridge and the savings were like $3/month. I couldn't justify getting a new one with my old turd, how you people with fairly decent fridges justify to get new ones because the way the door swings is beyond me 
My neighbour just redid his kitchen and sold me his 2 year old SS whirlpool 21 cu. ft. for $200, pretty happy about that. I hate paying the insane prices for appliances these days. Bringing it into my house alone up a flight of stairs was interdasting.

but yeah I hear ya. I didnt have a choice but to buy a new fridge since my original fridge was from the 80s as well and it was leaking water all over my kitchen floor.  but to be able to open the fridge standing up was nice rather than bending over to open the fridge sucked.
